Heather Brae Shortbreads Case Study

A Shared History...

A commitment to buying local and supporting other Australian companies has always been of great importance to Bassam Wakim (Bass), the Managing Director of Melbourne based Heather Brae Shortbreads, a 100% Australian owned and operated family business. As such, Heather Brae has been a loyal and much valued customer of Confoil’s since Bass and his family took over the business in 1989. The well-recognised and loved brand is a Master Baker and has been baking traditional family treats since 1941. Initially operating out of a small bake house during the war years, Heather Brae’s products can now be found in over 3000 supermarkets throughout Australia under both private label and the Heather Brae brand. Though their operations are now on a much larger scale, the company remains true to their core values and traditions as well as their prized family recipes. History has it that Heather Brae supplied biscuits to the Australian troops in the 1940s and that tradition continues even to this day.

For the past 29 years, Confoil has been honoured to be the choice manufacturer for a range of packaging needs required by the company. “I could always see many synergies in choosing to work with Confoil” shares Bass. “Like us, they are a local, Australian owned and operated family business. Over the years they have always given us a high level of service and quality and we have been able to rely on Confoil.”

Producing 5 different varieties and sizes of foil tarts, as well as customised, branded flexible packaging products, Confoil has been the perfect fit for Heather Brae’s evolving product range. “While we may be able to source cheaper packaging overseas, it is by no means the same quality as that provided by Confoil.” Bass confides. “The Heather Brae name prides itself on baking gourmet bakery treats that are of the highest standards, and the quality of our packaging is an extremely important piece of the pie. The personal care, the family culture, and the fact that Confoil are local and responsive to our needs is worth a lot to us.”
